Artist Kirk Maggio’s painting of the magnificent signature hole at the White Witch golf course here was unveiled March 8. Maggio, who has gained national recognition with his oil paintings of sports stars and scenes, painted the 17th hole with the vibrant colors of the sky, sea and golf course. “He’s captured the 17th brilliantly,” said Kenn Depew, Director of Golf at the White Witch. “If any hole on this course deserves to be preserved in an oil painting, this is the one.” Maggio is a Maryland-based artist who painted the 2005 President’s Cup team which included Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Fred Couples and Fred Funk. He was also commissioned to paint action portraits of Shaquille O’Neal and Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat. The painting will be located at the Ritz-Carlton Golf & Spa Resort on Rose Hall in Jamaica. Winding through the mountains of Jamaica’s historic 7,000-acre Rose Hall Plantation, sited on 600 acres of lush greenery and rolling countryside, the White Witch offers panoramic ocean, mountain and island views. Caddie Concierges have been trained to help make rounds more relaxing and pleasant, and 16 of 18 holes are stunning with views of the Caribbean Sea. The course is named after Annee Palmer, the notorious “White Witch,” who was mistress of Rose Hall Plantation in the early 19th Century. She was purported to be beautiful and beguiling—and to have done away with three unsuspecting husbands.
